Design and Development of the ENERGY STAR® Multi-Family Buildings Program

buildABILITY acted as a Design Consultant for the ENERGY STAR® Multi-Family Buildings Program. The program introduces ENERGY STAR® certification for mid/high-rise residential buildings in Canada and aims to reduce consumers' energy costs and support the Canadian government's climate change commitments.

Introducing ENERGY STAR® certification for mid/high-rise residential building in Canada

In 2017, EnerQuality approached buildABILITY Corporation to be a Design Consultant for the ENERGY STAR® Multi-Family Buildings Program. The firm developed the preliminary design framework and delivery model of the Program as well as the detailed Standard. The ENERGY STAR® Multifamily High-Rise (ES-MFHR) Program introduces ENERGY STAR® certification for mid/high-rise residential building in Canada. Prior to delivering the program on a national level, ES-MFHR was developed to roll out in Fall 2018 as an Ontario PILOT to generate market traction and test the program’s effectiveness. The innovative program design leverages the trusted ENERGY STAR® brand, hoping to reduce consumers’ energy costs, contribute to the Government of Canada’s climate change commitments, create skilled Canadian jobs, and stimulate innovation in the multifamily housing sector.
