buildABILITY Corporation developed a detailed document outline for a new publication for the Canadian Wood Council (CWC). The firm also established a Steering Committee to advise on the content and format of the publication.

buildABILITY subsequently developed a request for proposal (RFP) for the writing and content development for CWC's new Builder Handbook publication. In addition to developing the RFP, the firm also assisted the CWC during the RFP bidding process.

THE BUILDER HANDBOOK

For a number of years, the Canadian Wood Council (CWC) has developed publications for engineers, architects, building officials, builders, and developers such as the “Wood Design Manual”, the “Span Book”, the “Introduction to Wood Design”, as well as design tools such as WoodWorks® software and the “EffectiveR.ca” wall thermal resistance calculator. The CWC wished to fill an identified technical publication and resource gap for light wood frame and mass timber buildings. This new publication will extend existing and available builder resources, and address the transition from commonly-understood low-rise to emerging mid-rise buildings, as well as new mass timber buildings.

Before the development of any publication, an outline must be developed to identify the content, format, references, and audience. buildABILITY Corporation was asked to develop a detailed document outline for this new publication. The outline established a clear path for the development of a successful publication by identifying chapters, important topics and reference materials. buildABILITY also established a Steering Committee to advise on the content and format of the publication. Both the final publication Outline and the Steering Committee will be used by the CWC during the development of final publication.

buildABILITY developed a request for proposal (RFP) the writing and content development for the Canadian Wood Council’s (CWC) new Builder Handbook publication. The RFP was developed in such a way that one or multiple bidders could be approved for the scope of work. In addition to developing the RFP, buildABILITY also assisted the CWC during the RFP bidding process.
